Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials state initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior political figure said the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
